Newsletter

July-September 2007

Dear Friends of FFN,

I must begin by apologising for the belatedness of this quarterly newsletter.

The past three months have been as hectic as ever. We have seen the Durham and Oxford University groups both depart and then safely return from their Nepal expeditions. Judging by the feedback from the respective groups, this year's trips were great successes, further cementing the Everest expedition as an instrumental part both of FFN's funding and marketing. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the groups for their enthusiasm and tireless energy throughout this past year, and wish them good luck in the future.

While still on the expedition issue, I am happy to announce that Hugo Hunt, a veteran mountaineer, is currently climbing to the summit of Mount Baruntse, 7220m above sea level, on behalf of FFN. So far he has raised nearly £4000- an unbelievable achievement in itself. Thank you Hugo for choosing Future For Nepal as your charity of choice.

Aside from the expeditions, the past three months have seen the completion of 4 community projects, including the new building of a new accommodation block at Alphas, and the commencement of 5 other one-off projects and campaigns.

I am also please to announce that Prerana Thapa, our Nepali representative, has agreed to join Future For Nepal on a full-time basis. With 26 children currently sponsored by Future For Nepal, and with 4 large-scale community projects beginning next year, I am sure she will be kept extremely busy.  Good luck Prerana, I know that you will continue to do an amazing job!

I would also like to wish Alex Jack, the new Durham 2008 Everest leader, and Antony Boden, the new DUCK manager, good luck with the promotion of the Durham 2008 Everest Expedition. It is going to be a huge success!

Finally, I would like to finish by thanking you all for your continued support of both FFN and the Nepalese cause. Without your generosity, none of this would have been possible.

Take care,

Tom Wells
