Dear Friends of FFN

Life in Nepal has been as hectic as ever. Our website has now been fully updated, with numerous photos of the kids being added. Please visit: www.futurefornepal.com and have a look at some of the amazing things your generosity has allowed us to do.

July saw 4 more kids join Alpha’s hostel, bringing the total number we sponsor to 18 hostel children and 1 day child. The new children seem to have settled in really well; helped no doubt by the numerous outings, ranging from swimming to picnics to watching Superman at the cinema. From my personal side, what surprised me most about the children is how much they have grown and matured since I last saw them a year go, with some of the kids becoming virtually fluent in English. I definitely am beginning to feel old!

During July, I had the privilege of opening the new pre-school at Alphas which looks truly amazing. I also visited Shree Ram Mavi School and was able to witness the great contribution the new classroom we built has made to this community. For photos of all the kids and these projects, please visit: www.futurefornepal.com/photogallery.php. Please note the new FFN t-shirts and hostel dress that the kids are now modelling.

I am happy to announce that preparations for the Everest trip this year and the two trips next year are now also complete. Next year, the Oxford students will be working with the Women’s Foundation, a local N.G.O set up to protect the rights of victims of domestic violence, on a farm, in a shelter and in a school. While the Durham students will be based in 3 schools; one group will be working at Shree Ram Mavi School in Kavre, the second group will be working in a school in Godavri run by St. Xavier’s nuns, while the third group will be working in a school in Bhaktapur. Two of these schools have been chosen on the recommendation of Children’s Aid Centre, a N.G.O which FFN has worked closely with in our one- off building projects initiative.

Due to the support of FFN, Alpha High School is carrying out various building projects [stated below] for the benefit of all the children:

• A new accommodation floor is to be built on the junior hostel. This not only ensures the long- term hostel capacity of the school, but provides the existing students with more accommodation space.
• A recreation room is to be constructed. This will be a place for the children to practice dance and perform daily morning yoga.
• The existing library is to be revamped. The idea is to place greater emphasis on encouraging the children to learn through reading.
• 3 new personal computers are to be purchased for the recently renovated computer room. With all the computers now linked up to the internet, independent learning is to become more prominent.
