Dear Friends of FFN

Let me begin by thanking you all for your continued support of FFN and the Nepalese cause!!!

The last 3 months have been as hectic as ever with the completion of the FFN website (www.futurefornepal.com),the implementation and completion of Project Alpha, the initiation of 2 large scale national projects with Maiti Nepal (a project targeting the abolition of child trafficking) and with Prayas (a project aiming to help street child), as well as of 5 grass-root community projects, the final planning for the current Durham University Everest Expedition, and the set-up for all age groups of three tailor-made charity treks (http://www.futurefornepal.com/charity-treks.php).

Politically Nepal has also radically changed in the past 3 months, with the Maoist Party having won the majority of votes in the Constitutional Assembly, followed by an overwhelming vote in favour of Nepal being a Republic, and finally with the King of Nepal leaving his palace. However, particularly noteworthy is that this change in political regime happened peacefully!!! Let us now hope that Nepal has entered a more politically settled period.

During my 3 month stay in Nepal, I have also had the opportunity to spend a great deal of time both with the 29 FFN sponsored children and the 7 Prayas street children who we helped in one of our projects last year. Not only have I been able to take the kids on numerous swimming and cinema outings, but also celebrate with them FFN’s third year as a registered UK charity and watch them perform a cultural dance show for their parents. However it was the 3 day holiday to Saduke Beach Resort which I think that I will cherish the most. It still surprises me how quickly children learn and grow up!!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank a few people, in particular, for their help and support over the past three years. Prerana Thapa, our Country Representative, and Basant Bajracharya, our Charity Trek Tour Operator, have been invaluable throughout this process. I also would like to say a special thanks to Durham University Charity Kommittee (DUCK) who through their annual Everest Expedition have helped FFN in more ways than words can describe- thank you!!!

As ever, should any of you have any queries about FFN or our activities, please feel free to contact me anytime.

Many Thanks,

Take care,

Tom Wells
